The studio is responsible for the further development of the Game Series Deus Ex and Thief.

Test Conclusion

Test note

2.0

Well

Guardians of the galaxy certainly does not start the big action revolution. Nevertheless, it is a damn entertaining and well-implemented solo adventure for fans of famous Marvel heroes. Developer Eidos Montreal relies on the successful license atmospheric and lovingly. Above all, the many collective objects, small stories and cross-references ensure a good mood in conjunction with the typical Guardians humor. Playfully, Guardians of the Galaxy proves to be a successful mix of team-based struggles, smaller environmental riders and level exploration. However, the character progression is very simple and the combat system itself could have tolerated a little more. Just the restriction on a playable hero harms the variety - here the developers give away a lot of potential. The bottom line is not perfect Guardians of the Galaxy , but by pure entertainment with a belonging portion of humor and unconventional heroes.

Square Enix and superhero games - because of many the alarm bells. Because with Marvel s Avengers , the publisher last made a rather moderate license game, which was mainly due to his intrusive service concept. Against a high-class Marvel epic like Spider-Man - Miles Morales , the latest Avengers adventure was open to an opportunity. However, the good news: For the distribution of Marvel s Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy , Square Enix is responsible, but there are two independent projects developed by different teams. For Guardians of the Galaxy , Eidos Montreal is responsible and tells a stringent solo adventure that inspired by comics and films, but exists his own story.

Typical Guardians of the Galaxy!

The story starts harmless: The guards of the galaxy are looking for a mischief that you can make the ruler Lady Lightbender to the gift. However, from this supposedly simple expedition, the pure chaos arises in which the superheroes must accommodate it with an interstellar cult. The focus of interest is Star-Lord - the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy - and its past. The game shows him from another side and thus draws it adult and something more serious than in the Marvel movies.

Developer Eidos Montreal spices the twelve to 15 hours long campaign with smaller decision-makers and a large mass of entertaining dialogues and intermediate sequences. The Guardians of the Galaxy once again present themselves as a true family and discuss, insult and turn out through the game that it is a true pleasure. On the basis of their decisions, the ratio of the individual troop members is slightly changing, so that they also tickle new moments from the game for the second playing.

Fighting Chaostruppe

Guardians of the galaxy is still a linear single player experience. They assume Peter Quill Alias Star Lord and control them exclusively. Armed with lasers, melee capabilities and up to four special actions, create themselves in the gameplay with aliens, soldiers and other adversaries. The other Guardians command them over the shoulder buttons and thus activate their skills.

Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groots have individual properties that they should use as a player accordingly. Tree Riese Groot, for example, captivates enemies with his roots and makes them temporary movement and combat. Assassine Gamora, on the other hand, divides with its sword and aligns devastating damage. Each figure has up to four skills that unlock you with the help of collected experience points.

Add to that the so-called Huddle: After successful actions or shortly before a defeat, call the group together. Then set up some encouraging words to the superheroes and can shortly shorten the cooldings of skills and fill life energy. With the wrong answer only Star-Lord gets a small boost.

The Huddle is a nice extension and fits well to the group dynamics of the guards. Eidos Montreal binds the cool 80s soundtrack sent to the action: After the Huddle, a random song sounds out of the boxes and accompanies the fighting events. If the Guardians go to Whams Wake Me Up Before You Go-go soldiers, the good mood guarantees in front of the screen!

On the whole, the simple combat system playfully demands you little. In general, Guardians of the galaxy is rather shallow entertainment because sophisticated food. The fights go swiftly with the time of fingers, but lacks variety and depth. The presentation of the worlds and the battles are well implemented in the PlayStation 5 version tested by computer image, so that action friends should provide the popcorn.

More than action

For a little change, in addition to the dialogues, the exploration of the levels and the scattered environment puzzle. For example, with Drax concrete blocks, use it as a platform. Gamora cuts up grid and Groot leaves root bridges. Star Lord has various types of ammition used in combat, but also in the puzzles. For example, it uses electrical balls to restart generators. This tempo change is very good for the game. Eidos Montreal also makes nothing new in this case, but integrates clever well-known mechanisms and plays the license card sent out.

Explusing the pretty levels represented on the one hand serves the resource procurement. The two integrated materials need you to improve star Lords Arsenal. To build the blaster with a rechargeable power shot or expand the visor for an info function to display the weaknesses of the opponents. On the other hand, you will find a lot of texts, items and other collective objects in the area.

Very nice: the Milano, the spaceship of the Guardians of the Galaxy, is at various points in the game headquarters and retreat. Here you can watch souvenirs found in the levels, with the other Guardians chat or scroll through the soundtrack. In general, the game offers many advanced information about the universe and the characters. Here Eidos Montreal makes good fan service.

Release: Guardians of the galaxy appears on 26 October 2021 for PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, Nintendo Switch and PC. The price is 55 euros for the PC version and up to 70 euros for the console variant for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S.
