Lee Jong-ho, Minister of Science and Technology Information and Communication, presided over the first AI semiconductor strategic dialogue held in KAIST on the afternoon of 27th, and announced measures to support the AI semiconductor industry.

As competition for semiconductor technology hegemony intensifies, domestic system semiconductor competitiveness is insufficient, and the importance of AI semiconductors is increasing in the system semiconductor market. In particular, strategic development is needed to preoccupy the next generation AI semiconductor market.

The measures announced on the day include ▲ securing super-gap technology, creating initial market demand, creating an industry-university cooperation ecosystem, and fostering professional manpower.

■ New element design SW... 1 trillion in the development of all cycles of AI semiconductor

The government has decided to invest 1.2 trillion won over the next five years, including the R & D project, to expand joint research with leading countries such as the United States.

In the NPU sector, it will strengthen support to lead to commercializing domestic AI semiconductors with the mid-to long-term R & D protect that has been promoted. Memory semiconductor PIM, which has a computational function, will begin to develop a leading technology that combines AI computational functions with domestic flagship memory D rap and E flash.

Neuromopic new research research is also in full swing through the development of new materials-based devices.

Next year, the company will begin to develop AI semiconductor system software for various applications such as video, voice, and language, and develop the first artificial neural network system as a representative example of maximizing performance by utilizing NPU and PIM advantages.

■ Domestic AI semiconductor spread base

The company decided to create market demand for domestic AI semiconductors, which are in the early stages of launch, and support the performance verification and demonstration of domestic products.

First of all, the project to build a data center, one of the largest semiconductor demands, as a domestic AI semiconductor, starts next year.

Domestic AI semiconductors will be introduced into large data center computing equipment, which is scheduled to be established in Gwangju AI integrated complex.

Chip In addition, we will promote the AI+ Chip Project, which utilizes domestic AI semiconductors and verifies performance to develop AI products and services. Along with the AI semiconductor demonstration project, an AI semiconductor track will be established in the AI voucher business.

In addition, the company decided to fully apply domestic AI semiconductors throughout the national ICT R & D project.

In addition, the company plans to discuss domestic chips to be applied to public projects established by each ministry and local governments such as intelligent CCTV and smart city.

■ Strengthening industry-academia cooperation

The company decided to create an industry-university cooperation ecosystem where semiconductor companies participate. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix will participate as technical advisors to design the PIM optimized for industry-academia semiconductor production processes, and review the application of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix for excellent R & D results.

In addition, Samsung Electronics will be verified by the Samsung Cooperation Design House among the NPU R & D results and supports it to the fabless if it is evaluated as an excellent IP.

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix participate in the government's ICT R & D planning process to raise demand for promising technology and verify the results. R & D and human resource exchanges will be continuously expanded, including the dispatch of mutual workforce between the PIM semiconductor design research center and Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.

■ AI semiconductor specialists training 7,000 people

The government has decided to cultivate 7,000 AI semiconductor professional professionals for the next five years.

First of all, the semiconductor production equipment owned by universities and research institutes is advanced and used to produce and verify the design outcomes of students and researchers.

In the practical training for the 3rd and 4th graders, the AI semiconductor design is supported to produce prototypes, and the employees and prospective entrepreneurs provide EDA tools and short-term semiconductor training courses.


In order to cultivate a master's and doctor-level researchers, three AI Graduate School of AI will be established next year. The AI semiconductor university ICT research center, which conducts industry-academic research projects, will increase from three schools to five schools in the future.
